Apple & Tangerine Compote
Today, we would like to present to you a fun way to put into practice the food preservation method we talked about in our last blog post. If your apples begin to spoil and you do not want to throw them away, this homemade recipe is made for you. It's so easy to do good to your wallet and the planet !
Preparation time: 30 min Cooking time: 30 min Serves: 4 to 6 people
Ingredients: 500 g of apples 10cl of tangerine juice 1 tbsp cane sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 50cl of water
For the compote: Peel your apples and take out the seeds. Cut the apples into large dices. Put the dices in a large pan or in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Add the cinnamon, the tangerine juice, and the water. Cover and cook for approximately 20 min and stir occasionally. Leave it to cook a little longer if you prefer a nice and smooth sauce. Once the apples are cooked, add the sugar according to your taste preferences and then mix the compote.
To sterilize the jars: Open your glass jars and place them right-side-up in a large saucepan of boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes. Submerse the rubber washers in the boiling water for a few seconds. Remove the jars and the rubber washers and drain them well. Put the rubber washers back on the lids.
Fill the jars with compote up to the filling limit. Clean the rim of the pots, close them, and place them in a large container that covers them completely. Sterilize in boiling water for 20 minutes.
Let the jars cool in the water. Take them out once the cooling water has reached room temperature and wipe them. Make sure that they are tightly sealed and store them in a room with little or no heat, such as a garage or a cold cellar.
