You will find these little doughnuts in all bakeries and supermarkets in Luxembourg during the month of February. They are so delicious that they literally melt in your mouth. What if it is actually super easy to make them at home? The only “special” tool you need would be a deep fryer, but there are alternatives.
This sweet Luxembourgish snack can be served with sugar or with icing on top. A perfect sweet treat for these icy times.
700 gr of plain flour
125 gr of butter
250 gr of brown sugar
1 packet of baking powder
A touch of salt
250ml crème fraiche liquide/liquid cream?
1/4 lemon peel
Melt the butter and let it cool off.
Stir and slowly add the sugar, eggs, lemon and salt.
Put the flour on the side and slowly add it to the paste.
Add the cream, mix, then add the baking powder.
Whisk the dough until smooth (when the dough is too sticky, add some flour).
Roll out, cut stripes and make knots (ideal size = 15 g).
Heat 2 liters of frying oil in a pan.
Turn when slightly brown.
Sift some powdered sugar over the top.
Enjoy the sweetness!
