Sweet Potato & Chickpea Veggie Burgers

These veggie burgers are not only crazy delicious but also healthy and budget-friendly. Feel free to customize this recipe with your favorite herbs and spices !

Preparation time: 10 min

Cooking time: 30 min

Serves: 2-3 people (4-5 buyers)


2 sweet potatoes

1 can of chickpeas

1 red onion

1 large clove of garlic

1 lime

5 tablespoons of cornflour

A handful of flat-leaf parsley

Salt and pepper

Olive oil


1 small fresh chili pepper (if like spicy food)

Sesame seeds


Preparation :

  • Remove the baking tray from the oven and cover it with baking paper. Preheat the oven to 220°C.

  • Bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil.

  • Peel and dice the sweet potatoes and cook them for roughly 15 minutes (don't throw away the potato peelings but transform them into nice and crisps). Drain and set aside once they are soft enough to be puréed.

  • Blend the sweet potatoes with the chickpeas, the chopped onion, the pressed garlic, the chopped flat-leaf parsley, the cumin, the cornflour, the lime juice, and the chili pepper.

  • Season the mixture with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

  • Get your hands wet and form balls with the mixture. Place the balls on the baking tray and flatten them.

  • Sprinkle the burgers with breadcrumbs and sesame seeds.

  • Place them in the oven for approximately 10 minutes (you can also cook them in a pan if you prefer them slightly more crusty).

  • Remove from the oven once lightly browned and leave them to rest for a couple of minutes (otherwise they might break).
